The Federal Government is currently supporting the competitiveness of the German economy in the “Industry 4.0” programme. In 2005, the Würzburg pico-satellite UWE was the first German satellite of this size in space, followed by UWE-2 (2009) and UWE-3 (2013)
A further satellite launch for UWE-4 has already been approved and is expected to take place next year. Prof. Schilling received the highest international research award, the ERC Grant (European Research Council). The aim is to establish a micro-satellite test centre (satellite mission with several satellites = NetSat) at the “Zentrum für Telematik e.V.” in Würzburg. (ZfT). Intensive support from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and politics is needed for this. Researchers from the ZfT were therefore already guests of the Parliamentary State Secretary Brigitte Zypries in Berlin in May, who now visited the previous test facilities and satellite development facilities on September 2.
